Jamaica Bay
This major refuge, part of the Gateway National Recreation area, encompasses 9,155 acres of diverse habitats, including salt marsh, upland field and woods, several fresh and brackish water ponds, and an open expanse of bay and islands. Boating into the center of the Preserve is dangerous to those who do not have permission to enter.
